Monroe County Hospital CEO Casey Fleckenstein Named to Becker’s Top Rural Hospital and Health System Presidents and CEOs to Know in 2026

Recognition Highlights the Power of Homegrown Leadership in Rural Healthcare

FORSYTH, Ga., May 2026 — Monroe County Hospital (MCH) is pleased to announce that its Chief Executive Officer, Casey Fleckenstein, BSN, RN, has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the Top 146 Rural Hospital and Health System Presidents and CEOs to Know in 2026. This national distinction highlights the leaders who are making an extraordinary impact on rural healthcare across the country. The honor also reflects both Fleckenstein’s exceptional leadership and the remarkable turnaround at MCH, a 25-bed critical access hospital serving Forsyth, Georgia, and surrounding communities.

A Career Built in the Community She Serves

Fleckenstein’s connection to MCH began decades before she ever held an executive title. As a high school student in Forsyth, she completed clinical rotations at the hospital through her health occupations class. That early experience sparked a career that would span more than 20 years and every level of the organization from bedside nursing in the Medical Surgical Unit and Emergency Department, to roles in Post-Anesthesia Care, Emergency Management, Case Management, and ultimately Chief Nursing Officer.

In January 2026, the Monroe County Hospital Authority Board officially named Fleckenstein CEO after a deliberate leadership development journey guided by Aletheia Health Partners, MCH’s community-focused management company. That progression from CNO to Hospital Administrator to CEO was intentional, bridging her deep clinical expertise with the executive skills needed to lead a growing rural hospital.

“Casey brings over 20 years of knowledge to this role, and her passion for her hometown community and commitment to the hospital’s success is unmatched,” said Kerry Trapnell, Chief Administrative Officer of Aletheia Health Partners. “She is exactly the kind of leader rural healthcare needs — someone who knows the community because she is part of it.”

Why Local Leadership Makes the Difference

Aletheia Health Partners, which partners with MCH through a hybrid model of onsite and remote executive support, believes that sustainable rural hospitals are led by people who have a personal stake in their community’s future. Unlike management models that rotate outside executives through rural hospitals as a career stepping stone, Aletheia prioritizes identifying and developing homegrown talent.

Fleckenstein is a lifelong Forsyth resident who is raising her three children in Monroe County. Her investment in the hospital’s success is personal. “Because this is my home, this is my family, and these are my neighbors, I know the importance of having a capable community hospital in our backyard,” she said.

A Hospital Transformed

When Aletheia Health Partners began working with MCH in November 2023, the hospital was drawing down reserves and facing the possibility of closure. The turnaround since has been significant. Under Fleckenstein’s leadership and with Aletheia’s support, MCH has achieved:

  • A positive operating profit for the first time in more than seven years
  • A record 10,753 Emergency Room visits
  • A 21% increase in Swing Bed utilization
  • A nearly 50% reduction in contract labor costs, reinvested into staff and services
  • A soft reopening of the hospital’s operating room in 2025 for cardiac procedures, with a full reopening planned for 2026
  • Expanded specialty care offerings to keep services local for a rapidly growing community
  • Participation in the Kids Alliance for Better Care, a collaborative with Mercer University School of Medicine and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
  • Board service on the Forsyth-Monroe Chamber of Commerce and the Monroe County College and Career Academy

The hospital has also earned national recognition, including being named HomeTown Health’s Hospital of the Year for 2025, selected from among more than 50 member hospitals, and appearing on Becker’s “100 Great Community Hospitals” list for 2025 and “100 Critical Access Hospitals to Know” for 2026.
